2026 Fields Medals
23/07/2026
The International Mathematical Union (IMU) has officially announced the recipients of the 2026 Fields Medals at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Philadelphia. Widely regarded as the highest honor in mathematics, the Fields Medal is awarded every four years to up to four extraordinary mathematicians under the age of 40. The 2026 four laureates were recognized for transformative contributions across distinct areas of modern mathematics:
Yu Deng (University of Chicago) was honored for his breakthroughs in partial differential equations, notably deriving the Boltzmann equation from hard-sphere gas dynamics and pioneering probabilistic approaches to nonlinear Schrödinger dynamics.
John Pardon (Stony Brook University) was cited for groundbreaking achievements in symplectic geometry and topology, including new approaches to virtual fundamental cycles, Fukaya categories, and counting holomorphic curves.
Jacob Tsimerman (University of Toronto) was recognized for establishing o-minimality as a fundamental tool in arithmetic and complex algebraic geometry, leading to the resolution of long-standing problems such as the André–Oort conjecture and Griffiths'''' conjecture on period maps.
Hong Wang (New York University and IHÉS) was awarded for major advances in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory, including key breakthroughs on the planar wave equation local smoothing conjecture, Fourier restriction, and the 3D Kakeya problem.
